2024-12-12
The Michigan Wolverines football program has been making waves in the NCAA transfer portal, actively recruiting prospects despite not landing a commit yet. Two hot names on their radar are Florida International wide receiver Eric Rivers and Grambling linebacker Andrew Jones.
Michigan's Transfer Portal Pursuits - Rivers and Jones
Florida International Wide Receiver Eric Rivers
Rivers, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 174 pounds, has spent two seasons at Memphis (2021-22) and two at Florida International (2023-24). He still has one season of eligibility remaining. This season alone, he amassed an impressive 62 receptions for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging a remarkable 18.9 yards per catch. Remarkably, he caught 12 passes on throws of 20-plus air yards. In 2023, he hauled in 32 receptions for 370 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, he missed the entire 2022 season at Memphis due to injury after playing in six outings as a true freshman in 2021. The 2024 first-team All-Conference USA selection also averaged 6.8 yards after the catch per reception. With his outstanding stats, Rivers has already attracted visits from Miami (Dec. 13-14), Nebraska (Dec. 15-16), Penn State (Dec. 19-20), and Colorado (Dec. 21-22), making it an uphill battle for the Wolverines to land him, but they remain in the running.Grambling Linebacker Andrew Jones
Jones played at Memphis from 2021-22 before transferring to Grambling State for the last two seasons and still has a year of eligibility. In 2024, he had a stellar campaign, recording 122 tackles, including 20.5 for loss and 3 sacks, along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery in just 10 appearances. For his exceptional performance, he earned SWAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and was a first-team all-conference selection. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds, he may not be overly big for a linebacker, but he plays much larger on film. He is a heavy hitter and very strong behind his pads when meeting ball carriers in the hole. Combined with above-average speed for the position, he becomes a dangerous player in the box. Jones has seen numerous Power Four programs, including Michigan, reach out, showing his immense appeal.
