Wednesday's Works: Stilleto Boy Among 8 Graded-Stakes Winners

Stilleto Boy, a 6-year-old gelding, has been actively preparing for Saturday’s Prairie Bayou Stakes at Turfway Park. On Wednesday, he breezed three furlongs in 37.2 seconds, coming in third among the five at that distance. Trained by Ed Moger Jr., Stilleto Boy has faced some challenges this year, having not won since last year’s Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and being 0-for-4. This will be his first career start on a synthetic surface.

Stilleto Boy was one of eight graded-stakes winners with published works on Wednesday. Three others had worked the day before. This was his first workout since his last race. In his last start, he placed sixth in the Cherokee Mile over one mile on the main track at Churchill Downs on December 1 under trainer Ed Moger Jr.

None Above the Law (Karakontie), a Grade 2 winner in 2021 with the Del Mar Derby, worked four furlongs in 47.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning, setting the fastest time among 26 works at that distance. This was his first workout since his last race. In his last start, he placed sixth in the Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) over 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on November 29 under trainer Jorge Periban.

Papilio (Starspangledbanner), a Grade 2 winner in 2023 with the Appalachian, worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds on turf at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning, being the fastest among 35 works at that distance. Her previous work was 10 days ago over five furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start, she placed fourth in the Athenia over 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on October 19 under trainer Mark Casse.

Evening Sun (Muhaarar), a Grade 3 winner in 2022 with the San Francisco Mile, worked five furlongs in 59.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning, achieving the fastest time among seven works at that distance. His previous work was seven days ago over four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start, he placed seventh in a claiming race over one mile on the turf at Del Mar on November 24 under trainer Jeff Mullins.

Maltese Falcon (Caravaggio), a Grade 3 winner in 2023 with the La Jolla Handicap, worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning, ranking third among 26 works at that distance. His previous work was 16 days ago over four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start, he placed fifth in an allowance race over 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on August 22 under trainer Leonard Powell.

Skinner (Curlin), a Grade 3 winner in 2024 with the Native Diver, worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning, also ranking third among 26 works at that distance. This was his first workout since his last race. In his last start, he won the Native Diver (G3) over 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Del Mar on November 23 under trainer John Shirreffs.

V V’s Dream (Mitole), a Grade 3 winner in 2023 with the Pocahontas, worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Oaklawn on Wednesday morning, coming in 13th among 79 works at that distance. Her previous work was 21 days ago over four furlongs at Oaklawn. In her last start, she placed fourth in the Raven Run (G2) over seven furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on October 19 under trainer Kenny McPeek.

Tuesday's Works

Howbeit (Secret Circle), a Grade 2 winner in 2022 with the Santa Anita Sprint Championship, worked three furlongs in 36.0 seconds at Turf Paradise on Tuesday morning, ranking fourth among eight works at that distance. This was his first workout since his last race. In his last start, he placed second in a starter allowance race over seven furlongs on the main track at Arapahoe Park on October 26 under trainer Kerry Kemper.

Frost Free (Frosted), a Grade 3 winner in 2024 with the Chick Lang, worked three furlongs in 36.8 seconds at Oaklawn on Tuesday morning, ranking third among 20 works at that distance. His previous work was 141 days ago over five furlongs at Double M Training Center. In his last start, he placed 11th in the Woody Stephens (G1) over seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on June 8 under trainer Brett Creighton.

Sittin On Go (Brody’s Cause), a Grade 3 winner in 2020 with the Iroquois, worked three furlongs in 38.2 seconds at Oaklawn on Tuesday morning, ranking 12th among 20 works at that distance. His previous work was six days ago over three furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start, he placed seventh in an allowance race over one mile and 70 yards on the main track at Monmouth Park on July 12 under trainer David Jacobson.
