On Saturday, December 14th, the Miami Valley Valkyries are hosting a remarkable free baseball skills camp at Champions Academy. This initiative is led by Olivia Baker, a local baseball and softball star who is dedicated to providing girls of all ages with the chance to enhance their skills in the sport.

Olivia Baker: A Baseball Trailblazer

Olivia Baker has an impressive background. She played varsity baseball at Clermont Highschool for three years and continued to play softball during her senior year and throughout college. Her talent was recognized when she was invited to the 2017 Women’s National Team Development Program and later joined the Women’s Team USA Baseball Development Roster from 2022 to 2024. Being part of this elite group makes her one of the top 40 female baseball players in the nation.We had the opportunity to watch Olivia pitch for the Peaches at the All-American Women’s Baseball Classic this October 11-13 on MLB.com. This experience showcases her skills on a national stage and inspires the girls attending the camp. At the camp, girls are not only building individual skills but also learning firsthand from a female athlete who is achieving great things in the sport, blazing a trail for the next generation.The Miami Valley Valkyries, established in October 2024, offers girls in the greater Dayton and Cincinnati areas the chance to train and compete in baseball. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization, they are working hard to schedule, fund, and promote building clinics and special events to form teams that can participate in all-girl baseball tournaments across the country.There are at least 18 states that have all-girl baseball organizations, and the number is expected to grow. Women are actively involved in every aspect of the sport as professional coaches, managers, trainers, umpires, announcers, and players.
