Michael O’Brien's Dec 15, 2024 Super 25 Basketball Rankings Update
2024-12-16
A little bit of equilibrium has made its way into the Super 25 this week. The top echelons of the rankings have remained unchanged, with the top three teams continuing to shine. Kenwood emerged victorious against Simeon, Bolingbrook left a lasting impression against Oswego East, and DePaul Prep dominated Rich.

Teams Making Leaps

Niles North and St. Laurence have seen significant jumps this week. Niles North, which was ranked No. 10 in the preseason and started the season without Yaris Irby, managed to pick up a couple of losses and slipped down the rankings. However, on Saturday, they handled Simeon with ease and rose to No. 11. St. Laurence, on the other hand, pulled off an upset over Homewood-Flossmoor in overtime at Mount Carmel on Sunday. This remarkable performance catapulted them from No. 21 all the way to No. 7.

New Teams Joining the Ranks

It was time to welcome a number of teams that have started the season on a hot streak. Hersey, under the guidance of new coach Bob Widlowski, has achieved an undefeated record by defeating Palatine, Stevenson, and Prospect. Geneva has also been successful, winning against Downers Grove South and Conant. These Vikings and Huskies were always expected to make their mark in the Super 25 this season. Downers Grove North is a pleasant surprise. Under the leadership of Jim Thomas, a new group is playing exceptionally well. They have a big weekend ahead with games against Hinsdale Central and their rival Downers Grove South.

Teams Dropping Out

St. Patrick, Joliet West, Evanston, and Bradley-Bourbonnais have unfortunately dropped out after suffering losses. The Boilermakers, in particular, lost to Homewood-Flossmoor. While there is no shame in the defeat, the score of 72-38 clearly shows the intensity of the competition.Super 25 high school basketball rankings for Dec. 8, 2024 With record and last week’s ranking1.
