2024-12-06
The San Francisco Giants have made significant additions to their baseball operations team. On Friday, former general manager Bobby Evans and ex-agent Jeff Berry joined as special advisers under the leadership of new president of baseball operations Buster Posey. Evans started with the Giants in 1994 as an administrative assistant and later rose to the position of general manager in April 2015. However, he was let go in September 2018 following the team's second straight losing record. Berry, on the other hand, spent an impressive 26 years at the Creative Artists Agency and was co-head of CAA Baseball before leaving in June. He had the privilege of representing Posey during his time at the agency.

Expanding the Scouting Department

The Giants also took steps to enhance their scouting capabilities. They hired Hadi Raad as the director of pro scouting. Raad had a successful tenure in Miami, serving as the professional scouting director from 2019 to 2022. Subsequently, he took on the role of Pittsburgh's professional evaluation team leader from 2023 to 2024. His extensive experience also includes working for the New York Yankees and Texas. This move is expected to bring a fresh perspective and expertise to the Giants' scouting process. In addition to Raad, the Giants appointed Pike Goldschmidt as the director of baseball strategy. Goldschmidt has spent the past eight seasons with Oakland, where he held the position of director of baseball development since January 2023. His knowledge and experience in the baseball world are likely to contribute significantly to the team's strategic decisions. These hires mark an important phase in the Giants' baseball operations, as they aim to strengthen their team and improve their performance on the field. With the expertise and leadership of these new additions, the Giants are poised to make a mark in the upcoming seasons.
