Gavin Jenkins, the talented cornerback from Union County, is choosing to stay close to his roots as he heads to Tampa to play for South Florida. During his high school career, he achieved remarkable feats, amassing 10 interceptions, nearly 75 tackles, and 11 tackles for a loss. His decision was influenced by a heartfelt conversation with his mother. As he explained, "Real stressful, just sitting down and talking to my mom and stuff like that and really put it into perspective where I should go and we chose South Florida." This shows the importance of family support in his decision-making process.
Jenkins' skills and determination on the football field have earned him a spot at South Florida, and he is now looking forward to majoring in sports management. His journey is a testament to the hard work and dedication of local athletes.
Devin Diggs, another standout from Union County, is majoring in the same field as Jenkins but will be playing for the respected Osprey baseball program at the Univ. of North Florida. As he enters his senior year, Diggs has the opportunity to leave Union County with a sense of accomplishment. Last year, he hit three homers and nearly 20 runs batted in, demonstrating his prowess on the baseball diamond.
Diggs values the tough love and support he received from the Fightin’ Tigers program, which has prepared him well for success at the next level. He said, "I really liked it I mean, they really push you to try and get you to the next level, no days off really and there to support you and all." This shows the impact of a strong coaching staff in shaping a player's career.
