Leading from the Start
Breaking from post 3, Kehoe Beach wasted no time and went straight to the front. She maintained her position in the three path throughout the race, rattling off comfortable and unpressured fractions of 24.35, 48.57, and 1:12.43. This strategic approach allowed her to conserve energy and be in prime position for the final stretch.
As she powered through the race, it was clear that Kehoe Beach had a special something. Her strength and pace were evident, and she knew exactly how to race. Frankie Dettori, a master jockey, praised her, stating that she is a super filly with great breathing control and a natural sense of how to run. This made it a push-button ride for him, and when he pushed that button, she showed a great turn of foot like she did last time.
Overcoming the Competition
Pounce, at odds of 34-1 under Florent Geroux, gave Kehoe Beach a run for her money. Tracking in second, Pounce came within three-quarters of a length around the final bend, showing her own tenacity. However, Kehoe Beach had plenty of energy in reserve and drew clear with ease down the lane.
It was a thrilling battle between the two fillies, with Kehoe Beach's superior talent and experience shining through. Her ability to maintain her lead and pull away at the end was a testament to her quality. As she crossed the finish line, winning by 1 1/4 lengths, the crowd erupted in applause.
Post-Race Success and Future Plans
Kehoe Beach banked the $175,700 first prize and rewarded her backers with $2 mutuels of $4.10, $3.06, and $2.60 as the even-money betting choice. Her win pushed her earnings to $438,518 from a record of 7: 4-1-0.
Wesley Ward, the trainer, was full of confidence going into the race and was not disappointed. He praised Kehoe Beach, stating that she has really come to hand here since the summer and is coming into herself as a big, powerful filly. Kehoe Beach will be given a rest over the winter and targeted to Keeneland's Jenny Wiley (G1) next spring, where she is expected to continue her winning streak.
